My Classroom Rules
Recently we watched a movie, The Ron Clark Story, in my Education and Training Internship class. After watching the movie, I couldn't help but start thinking about the importance of rules in a classroom. After talking with my classmates and brainstorming I have figured out my eight golden rules for third graders.
Before you scroll any further, I would like to give you my view on classroom rules and how they should work in a classroom. Click here to learn about our assignment.
1. Why are rules important for learning?
Rules are set to get rid of distractions from reaching success. Having rules create expectations for students in learning environments. With rules students are expected to be respectful with their peers and property when the teacher establishes that with a rule. The learning environment is more organized and comfort.
2. How can rules help to keep a classroom running smoothly?
Having rules set in a classroom already sets an expectation towards the students, whether it is to be quiet and respectful or responsible with assignments. Rules and procedures prepare students for future situations like in highs school, jobs, and even in life-threatening situations.
3. What often happens in a classroom that is a void of rules?
In The Ron Clark Story movie, Ron Clark had to enforce his rules everyday to his new classroom because the students never taught to follow the rules. An absence of rules creates problems between student to student and students to teacher. Disrespect and distance is built when the teacher doesn't connect with the students and explains them why they should follow the rules.
Now that you know my thoughts on rules and why they are important, why don't you write your own answers in the comment section below. :)
